Pastor accuses wife of being fetish, claims his driver ran mad after eating wife’s food

An Ibadan based pastor, Gideon Johnson, Wednesday sought for the dissolution of his 17-year-old marriage to his wife, Oluwatoyin, accusing her of being fetish.

Johnson, resident at 4, Boripe Street, Basorun, in the state capital, told a Grade C Customary Court sitting at Agodi-Ibadan that his driver ran mad after eating a meal his wife prepared for him (Johnson) to eat.

Speaking before the court, the pastor also accused his wife who had four children for him of bad character and threats to his life and other members of his family.

He said, “The innocent driver ran mad few hours after he had eaten the food and was chained before we could take him to his family for solution.

“She intended to run me mad, she is fetish, diabolical and a threat to my life; in fact, she killed my senior brother and my father through her fetish ways.

“She almost succeeded in ruining my ministry when she ganged up with my enemies to spoil me before the big personalities that usually come to my church for prayers.

“I have not slept with her in the last 11 years because of her bad character.

“I will kill her if the court should decline my request to separate us.

In her defense, the wife said, “He neither cared for me nor for the four children of the marriage but always abusing me whenever he is preaching on the pulpit in the church.

“He accused me of being a witch and possessed spiritual power and I had challenged him to do deliverance for me since he is a pastor.

“I did not kill his father and brother- in-law.

“My husband abandoned me 11 years ago when he married another woman who had bore three kids for him,” the mother of four stated, pleading with the court not to dissolve the marriage for the sake of the children.

While warning the parties to maintain peace and stay clear of anything that could bring disharmony, the court’s president, Chief Mukaila Balogun, dissolved the marriage and ordered two children to be with the plaintiff while the custody of the remaining two children should be with their mother.

He ordered the plaintiff to be paying N8, 000 monthly as maintenance allowance for the two children that are in the custody of their mother, also directing that the plaintiff pay N12, 000 as house rent and N5, 000 as transport fees for the defendant to pack her load from the plaintiff’s house.

Imagine: Former Minister, Jumoke Akinjide returns only 10 million Naira to EFCC

A former Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Jumoke Akinjide, has  reportedly returned the sum of N10m to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Sunday PUNCH can confirm.

A source at the EFCC said, “The former FCT minister and other PDP leaders in the state received some campaign funds during the 2015 presidential election.

“She has been visiting our Lagos office. Recently, she returned N10m to the Federal Government. She is cooperating with us and she is expected to return more money.”

It was learnt that the money that Akinjide allegedly received, emanated from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and disbursed by the then Director of Finance, Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, Senator Nenadi Usman, who has since been charged with money laundering.

The money which was $115m but converted to N23bn, was said to have been kickbacks from some dubious oil contractors involved in oil theft.

Several calls made to Akinjide’s line to get her reaction did not go through as of the time of filing this report.

The anti-graft agency had also detained the Chairman of the PDP Oyo State Chapter, Yinka Taiwo.

The EFCC has so far grilled about 16 former governors and ministers over the alleged N23bn scam sleaze.

Some of them include ex-Governor of Kebbi State, Saidu Dakin Garin; former Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State; former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State; and ex-Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State.

Others are: former Governor James Ngilari of Adamawa State; a former Governor of Zamfara State, Mamuda Shinkafi; a former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke; and a former Minister of State for Finance, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda.

During the election, each state was said to have received at least N450m from the fund which was handled by ministers or governors who were members of the PDP. Some states, however, received more than N450m.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in Nigeria

, , , , , ,

Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg, yesterday, arrived Nigeria unannounced. The 32-year-old tech enterpreneur surprisingly made a sudden visit and inspection of activities at the Co-Creation Hub, Yaba Lagos.

His arrival to Nigeria is not unconnected to the ‘Facebook for developers’ workshop’ for Nigerian engineers, product managers and partners holding today in Lagos.

The event is expected to help the engineers build better applications and monetise them more effectively.

Before his arrival, it was earlier announced that the company’s Director of Global product Partnerships, Nigeria’s Ime Archibong was to lead speakers to the event where Facebook would unveil a ten-year roadmap that can help improve Nigeria’s economy.

Facebook is an online social networking service based in Menlo Park, California, United States, which Zuckerberg and his fellow Harvard College students and roommates, Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes formed on February 4, 2004.

After its initial public offering, IPO in February 2012, Facebook began selling stock to the public three months later, reaching an original peak market capitalization of $104 billion. On July 13, 2015, it became the fastest company in the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index to reach a market cap of $250 billion.

As of March this year, Facebook had hit over 1.65 billion monthly active users out of which 7.1 million people are daily users from Nigeria. This makes the country Africa’s biggest user of the social media platform.

However, Vanguard gathered that it was for security reasons that Zuckerberg’s plan to visit Nigeria and his eventual arrival was kept top secret.

A close source who spoke to Vanguard said: “It was a top secret and nobody was meant to know before his arrival. It was actually for security reasons but now that he is here, he would be able to interact with tech professionals and other Nigerians today in a press conference at Eko Hotel and Suites tomorrow (today).”

Being his first trip to Africa, Zuckerberg on arrival met with developers and partners, and also explored Nollywood.

One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria where young developers learn how to code and develop their solutions while looking for mentors and angel investors.

At CcHub, Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. Life Bank saves lives by mobilizing blood donations, taking inventory of all blood available in the country, and delivering blood in the right condition to where it is needed.

Thrilled by level of technology development at the CcHub, Mark Zuckerberg, said, “This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.

“The first place I got to visit was the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps. I’m looking forward to meeting more people in Nigeria.”

Oyo State Revenue Service seals off 39 firms including Shoprite, Bubble Plus and commercial banks

, ,

OYO State Inter-ministerial Tax Enforcement team on Wednesday and yesterday sealed off about 39 firms, including banks, private hospitals, companies and filling stations within Ibadan metropolis for tax defaulting.

Among the firms sealed were Shoprite Dugbe, Unity Hospital Orogun, Ojulowo Eye Clinic, Victory Medical Centre, Grath Nigeria limited, Jericho Idi-Ishin, Ibadan; Dabil Global Ventures, Apata, Ibadan; Funbel Diagnostic Centre, Challenge; Bubble Plus Recreation Centre, Ring Road, Eco Groove, Challenge and some commercial banks.

The action was sequel to the announcement made by the government to embark on an enforcement of payment of taxes, levies duties and other rates by corporate organisations and individuals.

The government had embarked on the sensitisation and engagement programme for citizens, traders, artisans and business owners on the need to pay their taxes to improve the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Biyi Oloko, said this became necessary because many of the companies failed to pay government’s rates, taxes, development levy and renewal of business premises registration fees despite the notices served on them.

He noted that this contravenes the provision of Section 8 of the State business/professional premises law of 1996.

According to him, “this enforcement exercise has become imperative because the state’s economy needs a turnaround through internally generated revenue, private sector led investment and partnerships. The government is operating within the ambits of the law; both individual and corporate citizens must inculcate the culture of responsible citizenship by performing their statutory duties.

“Some firms as well as individuals were expecting us and they paid immediately we got there. Some organisations rushed to make their payment and we have reopened their firms/offices. Our action is backed by the law and we have to ensure that we do not err on the part of it,” he explained.

Oloko urged eligible tax payers to remit their payments into government’s coffers or face sanctions as the exercise would be a continuous one.
